New York Bight Transit Lane Workshop

June 10, 2020 UPDATE:

The New York Bight Transit Lanes Surveys, Workshop, and Outreach Summary is now available. This document summarizes the feedback that NYSERDA, NYSDEC, and RODA gathered from commercial fishermen regarding fishing transit through proposed possible New York Bight Wind Energy Areas (WEAs) from January 2019 through January 2020.

November 29, 2019

Using feedback from the March 2019 workshop and subsequent discussions with fishermen, the organizing team developed a set of potential transit corridor options. The team is again seeking additional information and request that commercial fishermen review the map and answer the survey questions at the following link: https://nyfisheriestwg.ene.com/Contact/survey

Additional details about this survey effort are included on the survey web page.

Commercial fisheries stakeholders are asked to please complete the survey by Saturday, December 21, 2019. Feel free to contact Greg Lampman (Gregory.Lampman@nyserda.ny.gov) or Pat Field (pfield@cbi.org) if you have any questions.

Port Jefferson, NY

NYSERDA, NYSDEC, and RODA gathered feedback related to fishing transit throughout the New York Bight. This information gathering, which included a review of existing data and a fishermen survey, culminated in a transit workshop on March 27, 2018 at Danfords Hotel, Marina, and Spa in Port Jefferson, New York. The goal of the workshop was to present information collected on New York Bight transit routes to participants, to gather feedback, and ultimately develop a Workshop Report that provides a clearer understanding of where transit lanes would provide the greatest value prior to the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management’s delineation of new offshore wind lease areas in the New York Bight. The workshop materials are linked below.
